  • This month our Every Month Matters focus hits way too close to home.  Ultimate Ventures made a donation to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance in honor of our friend and co-worker Elena Walsh.  Elena was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer just over a month ago.

Elena has been and continues to be an inspiration to us all. She’s been sharing her story to raise awareness, and she was kind enough to let us share part of her story on our blog:

“So, what led me to this point? I wish I could say that the signs are obvious but I can’t and that is why they call Ovarian Cancer, “The Silent Killer”. I have learned that I was a prime candidate, women over 50 who have gone through menopause, they are the most at-risk group of women. I am hopeful to make it to age 55, cancer-free!

For quite some time, I felt abdominal pressure, bloating, discomfort and no matter how much I rested, I was always tired. My level of discomfort and low energy levels eventually got me to the gynecologist where they did a sonogram which detected a large mass which would require major surgery. A yearly pap smear will not detect ovarian cancer.”

With a diagnosis of Stage 2 ovarian cancer, Elena feels blessed that her cancer was caught early. She will have weekly chemo treatments this summer surrounded by an army of friends, family and prayer warriors by her side. Here’s to strength and healing for our friend Elena and for all who are fighting for their lives.

Sadly, this is not our first time that someone from the UV team has faced this terrible disease. Our hope is that we can share some insight into Ovarian Cancer so that our friends and family are aware of the warning signs.
