Globe Life Field – A Whole New Ballgame!
The Texas Rangers baseball team is kicking off the 2020 season in a brand-new home – Globe Life Field in Arlington. The state-of-the-art baseball stadium opens for business on March 14th, and from all indications, it’s in a league of its own!
Globe Life Field (not to be confused with Globe Life Park, the former ballpark which remains open for XFL games, events, and other business) is centrally located in the Texas Live! Entertainment District and just across the parking lot from AT&T Stadium. This prime location puts it near exciting restaurants, entertainment venues, and the new and stylish 300-room luxury hotel, Live! by Loews – Arlington.
Globe Life Field has a seating capacity of more than 40,000 people and features an open-viewing theme that enables fans to watch the field from the outside concourses and plaza. Additionally, the roof at the ballpark is the first of its kind in baseball. It features a low-profile, three-tier retractable roof, which covers both the infield and the outfield in the event of rain. The design incorporates a skylight, allowing natural light to indirectly filter into the stadium even when it is closed, without affecting the vision of players or fans. And, most exciting, fans can enjoy the outdoor ambiance in air-conditioned comfort on warm Texas days!
Another interesting design feature is that the playing surface is built 70ft below ground level, enabling fans to directly view the game from the outfield. The stadium features a 360º uninterrupted upper concourse, and the seats are situated closer to the playing surface. Also, the ballpark added 14ft-high netting behind the dugouts to protect fans from foul balls and stray bats.

New Loews Hotel & Convention Center on the Horizon
And there’s more excitement on the horizon for Arlington! The city recently announced plans for an $810 million expansion of its Entertainment District. The expansion will include a new 880-room hotel with an attached 150,000-square-foot convention center plus more dining, retail, and entertainment options. The expansion of the Entertainment District could be completed as early as 2023. The future looks bright for meetings and events in Arlington!
